Top 10 Free Online Games Based on Cartoons

By Nancy Basile, About.com

Whether it's The Simpsons, South Park or Adult Swim shows, I've found the best free online games to waste time on the Internet. These games were ranked based on how much fun I had, how difficult (or just difficult enough) it was to play, and the graphics and sounds.

1. Homer Simpson Memory Game

This was very challenging and fun. It's a typical memory game where you must match pairs of pictures of Homer. There are lots of pictures, which makes it tough. I successfully matched the pairs in 1 minute, 22 seconds, with 56 total flips. You are rewarded with a "D'oh!" or "Woo hoo!" depending on your ability to match.

2. Aqua Teen Hunger Force Carl's Freakin' Strip Poker

This poker game was a lot of fun because I thought it was easy to win. I didn't see much stripping, thank goodness. You can play as one of many characters from the show. Then, like any other poker game, you bet, discard, pass or deal a hand. Carl chats with you in his usual suave way.

3. Harvey Birdman Habeus Dorkus

If you're old enough to have played Zork, you will love, repeat love, this game. You type in commands, such as look, read, take or east, in order to maneuver through the game: No graphics, just text. And it's played with the same sarcastic humor of Harvey Birdman. I didn't get very far, but that doesn't mean you won't. Be ready to spend a lot of time on this game.

4. Harvey Birdman Jailbirdman

This game was a lot of fun. It is very similar to an actual console game. Using your mouse, you move Harvey through a maze of jail guards and enemies in order to find a key and release your client from jail. It gets more and more difficult as you progress. There are bonus items along the way. I enjoyed the gameplay and the graphics.

5. Shorties Watchin' Shorties Baby Hunt 3000

In this Flash game you must find the babies' favorite items, in order, so they can have their remote back. At times I was amused and shocked at the items located in the babies' apartment. You click items, they do something, and then the items reveal whether or not they have something you're looking for. You can turn the sound off almost immediately. It took me two tries to win.

6. Ren & Stimpy Dutch Oven Game

Woe is you if you've ever been the victim of a Dutch Oven. In this game, you help Stimpy keep Ren fully gassed. You can even watch him gasping for breath on an undercover cam.

7. Sealab 2021 Time for Trouble!

As Dr. Quinn, you swim through the sea shooting at objects. You must reach Stormy in time so the Sealab doesn't blow up. I enjoyed this game because I could actually do it. It was still difficult enough, though, that on the first pass, I failed to save Sealab. All the moves are done using the keyboard.

8. Drawn Together Soak It

I had a lot of trouble playing this game, but I'm not an expert gamer. Your mission is to soak the characters in the face with ink before they soak you. I thought I was doing a good job but the soaking went on forever, until I managed to "erase" a couple of characters. The most fun I had was watching Spanky Ham flip me off. Also, beware if you're at the office: This game has loud music and you can't turn it off until a few screens into the game.

9. The Venture Brothers Flight of the Monarch

This game is very enjoyable. It's just difficult enough to be challenging, yet not so difficult you couldn't have fun with it. You must fly the Monarch high enough to avoid getting zapped, yet allow him to glide when he's too close to the top. You do all this by either clicking, or not, your mouse button.

10. Aqua Teen Hunger Force Head Games

Carl has literally lost his head and you, as Meatwad, must help him retrieve it. You morph into various things in order to move Carl through a maze. I wasn't very good at it, but you might be. Carl speaks pearls of wisdom along the way. It's fairly difficult, so you'll need to practice.
